Sofia Petsa-Poutouri
Sofia Petsa-Poutouri was born in Athens in 1991. She studied Medicine and specialized in General Surgery and Surgical Oncology. Her engagement with ceramics began in 2018, running parallel to her medical career. In 2022, she decided to fully dedicate herself to ceramic art, studying under the guidance of Menandros Papadopoulos. She was trained in wheel throwing alongside Andreas Mitsios and Giannis Liakos.
Her work is inspired by humanity, its physicality and its existence within a wider social sphere. It draws on psychological, political, and social concerns, expressed through organic, natural forms. Many of her artworks are offering a renewed perspective on the ‘inner’ self: the human body, deeply familiar, yet persistently unknown. All glazes are made by her, as experimenting with glazes and techniques is part of her work.
She currently maintains a studio in Votanikos, Athens, where she develops her personal collections and creates commissioned works. Alongside her artistic practice, she participates in selected exhibitions and teaches Glaze Technology at the ceramic school “Iridanós”, working closely with Menandros Papadopoulos.
